Parklands Cricket are a junior and social focused, family friendly community club, part of the multi-sport Parklands United Sports Club based at Parklands Reserve, Christchurch.
Since 2022 we have been one of the fastest growing Cricket clubs in Christchurch, with the lowest junior fees in the North East. We aim to make Cricket as accessible as possible to all.
While we do offer a senior social program and have senior teams playing social T20 cricket, we focus extensively on our junior programs so our tamariki get the attention that isn't always possible at clubs with full senior programs.
We aim to build great cricketers, but focus equally on enjoyment, team culture and belonging, building great community members as well. Our coaches are volunteer parents and are supported to ensure they and their players get the most out of their experience at the club.
Off the pitch, we run regular, fun Club Nights and events focused on celebrating our juniors throughout the season (with a bar open for the parents!) and we believe connecting more through these events helps strengthen our club, teams and communities.
For Juniors (up to High School age), Parklands Cricket offers:
- Saturday morning Cricket (with an additional mid-week practice) for junior teams for Years 0 to 8 (age 5 to 13), playing in ChCh Junior Cricket Association competitions with many games at our home grounds in Parklands and some around Christchurch, typically North/North East. Juniors play modified matches suitable for their age, lasting as little as 75 minutes and in most grades all players get an equal turn to bat, bowl and field.
- A Tuesday night "Smash Play" programme for 4 - 8 year olds. This is a great way to get kids involved with cricket and team sport as a starter and features a game-based approached to learning with maximum movement, participation and fun.
- In Winter (Term 2 and Term 3), Indoor Cricket in the Parklands Community Centre hall with considerably lower fees than dedicated Indoor centres but all of the fun.
Youth in Christchurch play for their High School rather than for a club.
For Adults, we offer:
- A Thursday evening Social Smash! tournament designed for maximum fun, participation and accessibility to all, with no protective equipment required and no experience needed. Come and have a bash and a beer on Parklands Reserve.
- Senior T20 Cricket on Saturday afternoons playing in Canterbury Metro cricket competitions at home and around Christchurch.
