SOCIAL SMASH!
Parklands Cricket are pleased to offer a Social Cricket tournament for adults of all abilities and genders on Thursday evenings at Parklands Reserve (and potentially Queenspark Reserve depending on the number of registrations).
The aim of this tournament is to provide a fun, social cricket option that doesn't take too long and is accessible to all. If you've never played cricket, were intimidated by hard balls and helmets, don't like giving up an entire Saturday afternoon, or perhaps thought your cricket days were behind you or limited to the backyard - this program is for you!
We supply and allow only yellow plastic balls and bats - pretty much the same as our junior cricketers use but bigger - with no protective equipment necessary. Socially considerate bowling is encouraged with limited length run-ups.
The game format is "Super 8s", designed to give each player an equal turn to bat, bowl and field. 16 overs per side, all bowled from the same end speeds up the game and keep it down to 90 minutes. There is no clothing requirement and the vibe is highly social and casual - we even have One Hand One Bounce!
All teams will play from 6PM to 7:30PM, the time chosen to be late enough to allow those working in town to get home but early enough to also allow children to come down and be inspired by their parents and have a play on the playground or in the nets.
Oct-Dec 2024 Program
Our Q4 2024 Social Smash will run for six weeks on Thursday Oct 31, Nov 7, Nov 21, Nov 28, Dec 5 and Dec 12 (so no play the Thursday before Canterbury Anniversary).
For this season we have two options when registering:
- Register an entire team of at least 6, up to 8 players using a simple, quick form - just $120 for 6 games ($15 per player for a team of 8, just $2.50 per game)
- Register as an invididual - $20 for 6 games, this higher fee than the above team registration is for Parklands Cricket to facilitate organising and placing you into a team. Please note with this option that we can't guarantee who will be in your team even if friends are requested, and once they are formed teams must provide their own manager, scorer and arrange your own fill-ins if short on match day.

SENIOR SATURDAY CRICKET
Parklands Cricket fields mostly junior teams in competitions run by the Christchurch Junior Cricket Associaion (CJCA), however we do also support teams to play in social focused leagues run by Christchurch Metro Cricket.
We currently have the following teams:
- Parklands Patriots - playing in Christchurch Metro Cavaliers Twenty20
